Communities across Southwest Florida are preparing to honor fallen service members with Memorial Day ceremonies on Monday.
Bonita Springs
A service will begin at 9 a.m. on the lawn of the Lilies Hotel at 27300 Old 41 Road.
Raymond Sandelli, a retired lieutenant and naval aviator with the U.S. Navy and former Lee County commissioner, will serve as the guest speaker.
Fort Myers
The city of Fort Myers will host its ceremony at 9:30 a.m. at Memorial Gardens Funeral Home & Cemetery, located at 1589 Colonial Boulevard.
The event will include a flyover, a presentation of colors from the Lee County Sheriff’s Office and a keynote address from Fort Myers Mayor Kevin Anderson. A wreath recognition will also be part of the service.
Cape Coral
Cape Coral’s ceremony is scheduled for 10 a.m. at the Field of Honor at Coral Ridge Funeral Home & Cemetery, 950 Chiquita Boulevard South.
Guest speakers will address attendees, and water and shaded seating will be provided.
Punta Gorda
Punta Gorda will hold its ceremony from 11:30 a.m. to noon at the Military Heritage Museum, 900 West Marion Avenue, Building B.
Philip J. Schofield, Sr., a corporal in the United States Marine Corps, will speak at the event. The Color Guard-Marine Corps League, Detachment 756 Charlotte County, will present colors, and a short video will be shown.
