Fort Lauderdale, FL (October 30, 2025) – A tragic crash claimed the life of an 18-year-old Coral Springs resident on Sunday, October 26, when a car collided with a fire engine on Florida’s Turnpike just north of Commercial Blvd, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Authorities reported that Anthony Sahlin was a passenger in a 2021 Toyota Camry when the vehicle struck a Tamarac Fire Rescue engine that was positioned on the highway responding to an earlier crash. The collision caused severe injuries to all three occupants of the Camry. Sahlin was transported to Broward General Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead.

Sahlin is survived by his parents, Korey Lee and Ricky Sahlin, and two younger sisters. He was just 18 years old.

The driver of the Camry, a 20-year-old man from Coral Springs, and the rear-seat passenger, a 16-year-old from Parkland, both suffered serious injuries and were hospitalized. Their current conditions have not been publicly released.

Florida Highway Patrol is continuing to investigate the crash. Authorities have not commented on potential contributing factors, including visibility, speed, or awareness of emergency vehicles.

Our thoughts are with the Sahlin family and all others affected by this heartbreaking loss.

Crashes Involving Emergency Vehicles in Florida

Crashes involving stationary emergency vehicles, like the one that occurred on Florida’s Turnpike near Commercial Blvd, represent a persistent and dangerous issue on highways across the state. Florida’s “Move Over” law exists specifically to prevent tragedies like this—requiring drivers to either move over a lane or slow down when approaching emergency or service vehicles stopped on the roadside.

In Sunday’s crash, the fire truck had stopped to assist with an earlier incident—placing first responders in a highly vulnerable position. Drivers who fail to notice or react appropriately to these situations can unintentionally create devastating outcomes, not only for rescue workers, but for the very individuals they aim to protect.

The impact on families following such collisions is profound. The sudden loss of a loved one—especially someone as young as 18—brings not only grief but a rush of legal, medical, and logistical questions. Families may be faced with navigating hospital bills, insurance disputes, and investigative procedures while still processing unimaginable loss.

Understanding one’s legal rights and options is critical in these moments. Whether seeking justice, accountability, or simply clarity, victims and families deserve support they can trust.
