FORT PIERCE, Fla. (CBS12) — Treasure Coast high school students got a front-row seat to the future of medicine at HCA Florida Lawnwood Hospital’s hands-on Robotic Discovery Day.

In a Saturday news release, hospital officials said Robotic Discovery Day gave students hands-on experience with robotic surgical systems, letting them explore their capabilities and learn directly from experienced surgeons.

“Our goal is to inspire the next generation of healthcare professionals by showing them the incredible technology and expertise we have right here on the Treasure Coast,” said Eric Goldman, CEO of HCA Florida Lawnwood Hospital. “By giving students a hands-on experience with robotic surgery, we hope to spark curiosity, encourage learning, and show them the exciting opportunities that a career in medicine can offer.”

During the event, students participated in demonstrations and simulations that highlighted how the technology is revolutionizing the surgical industry. Officials say robotic surgery is more precise, with smaller incisions and faster recovery times.

Following the simulations and demonstrations, students were able to ask questions and hear from surgeons about their careers, daily work, and the role of technology in medicine.
