A woman has reunited with her dog after seven years apart.
Gabrielle Hartley’s Tampa home was burglarized in 2018, and following the incident, she found her husky pup Luca, who she’d spent one year with, was missing. Hartley called the police to report her dog missing, but authorities had no luck finding him for the next seven years, per ABC affiliate Tampa Bay 28.
“When Luca was just one year old, my home was broken into and he was stolen from me,” Hartley wrote on her GoFundMe page for Luca. “I searched everywhere, filed reports, and held onto hope.”

For the last seven years, Hartley has maintained her subscription to PetKey to keep the information on Luca’s microchip up to date, she wrote, and last week, it finally paid off.
PetKey reached out to Hartley to let her know her dog had been found. According to Tampa Bay 28, a police officer had found Luca, wandering alone on the side of a street. From there, the officer took him to Animal Doctors of South Tampa to get his microchip scanned.
When she first saw her dog again, Hartley said her heart “broke” for Luca. She told the outlet that she believed her dog had been taken for breeding purposes, and was later abandoned due to his health condition.
“He’s severely malnourished and has a large growth on his side that needs to be surgically removed,” Hartley wrote on the GoFundMe. “The vet believes he’s been living in very poor conditions for most of his life.”
“He had a UTI, blood infection, broken teeth from probably trying to escape a cage, broken claws, defensive marks all over his body. He’s only like 38 pounds for a full-grown male dog, that’s not even close to healthy,” she told the outlet.

Now, Hartley is hoping to raise $10,000 to help cover Luca’s medical expenses. She wrote that she’s focused on giving her dog “the love, comfort, and health he deserves after everything he’s been through.”
