Floridians could see relief at the pump if lawmakers factor it into the new budget

Florida residents could see some relief at the pump soon.

It all depends on the state’s lawmakers and if they decide to include it in the new budget.

Governor Ron DeSantis says he would support a temporary gas tax holiday, if that is the direction lawmakers choose to go.

The proposal would suspend part of Florida’s fuel tax to lower prices at the pump.

According to the Florida Department of Revenue, the state’s gas tax is currently around 38¢ per gallon.

The last gas tax holiday in Florida was in 2022.

DeSantis highlighted one issue with the last tax relief measure. The tax went down but gas stations raised their prices.

The governor did suggest an alternative: providing relief through commuter toll reductions.
