CAPE CORAL, Fla. (WINK) — The city has lifted its temporary burn ban as drought conditions improve.
Cape Coral Fire Department officials announced the rescission of the burn ban that was issued on Jan. 2. The Keetch-Byram Drought Index has fallen below 600 due to recent and forecasted rainfall.

Residents can now resume recreational and cooking fires, but must continue to use caution. All recreational fires must comply with the city’s Code of Ordinance for Recreational Burns.
The regulations require fires to be at least 25 feet from any structure and kept to a maximum of 3 feet in diameter and 2 feet in height. An extinguishment source must be available, and recreational fires are not intended for vegetation or rubbish disposal.
