TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – A Leon County judge denied a request to block Florida’s new congressional maps on Tuesday.
Several lawsuits were filed against the new maps, which were adopted during the legislature’s first special session this year.

The plaintiffs in the case argued the maps were drawn mid-cycle with partisan data.
But Leon County Circuit Judge Joshua Hawkes denied the emergency request to stop the use of the maps.
In his ruling, Judge Hawkes notes that the new maps and arguments against them are coming just months before the primary and general elections, and cautions against a ruling that would reinstate old maps on such short notice.
