PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. (CBS12) — Freebies and a giant motorized shopping cart helped celebrate Publix’s grand opening at its new 48,000+ sq. ft. Port St. Lucie store.
The new store is located at Riverland Town Center on the 12400 block of SW Community Blvd, and for many opening day shoppers– it was a long time coming.
“There’s a lot of people living out here so we need more stores,” said Port St. Lucie resident Lorene Mauri. “We absolutely needed more Publix’s so I’m just glad there’s another one to shop at.”

“We are excited to welcome customers to their new Publix,” said Lindsey Willis, Publix media relations manager. “The store reflects our commitment to quality, service, and fresh offerings. It also features an upstairs area with both indoor and outdoor seating for customers to sit and enjoy their favorite Publix finds!”
The new location offers departments for grocery, dairy, frozen food, seafood, meat, and fresh produce in addition to a full-service bakery, deli, pharmacy, and a separate Publix Liquors.
To celebrate the grand opening, Publix sent out a giant motorized Publix shopping cart to travel through the community for the entirety of opening day.
In addition to the giant cart spectacle, Publix also handed out commemorative reusable bags to the first 95 customers in line on opening day.
