Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected across much of the Miami Valley Wednesday, May 27, according to the National Weather Service.
A flood advisory remains in effect until 11:30 a.m. Wednesday for Clark, Greene, Miami, Montgomery and Preble counties.
Between one and two inches of rain fell overnight and into Wednesday morning, leading to minor flooding in low-lying areas and locations with poor drainage. Forecasters say up to an additional inch of rain could fall later today.
Showers and possibly a thunderstorm are expected, mainly before 5 p.m., followed by a chance of additional showers and storms later in the evening. The high temperature is expected to reach near 78 degrees, with light winds in the afternoon. The chance of precipitation is 80%, with additional rainfall totals between a quarter- and a half-inch possible.
Communities that may experience flooding include Dayton, Kettering, Beavercreek, Huber Heights, Fairborn, Trotwood, Miamisburg, Vandalia, Englewood, Tipp City, Eaton, Bellbrook, Moraine, New Carlisle, West Milton, Oakwood, Yellow Springs, Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, West Carrollton and Enon.
Showers and thunderstorms could continue into the evening, mainly before 7 p.m., before skies gradually clear overnight. The low is expected to fall to around 60 degrees. The chance of precipitation overnight is 30%, with less than a tenth of an inch of additional rainfall expected, except in thunderstorms.
The NWS warns that most flood deaths occur in vehicles and drivers should “turn around don’t drown” when encountering flooded roads.
