Humana has completed an $83 million investment in a new CenterWell Pharmacy mail-order distribution center in Orlando as the healthcare company expands medication fulfillment infrastructure tied to its broader coordinated care model across Florida.
The 162,000-square-foot facility is now fully operational and is designed to increase prescription delivery capacity throughout Florida and the southeastern United States while supporting Humana’s integrated healthcare operations spanning Medicare Advantage, Medicaid, primary care, home health, and pharmacy services.
The Orlando center can process up to 64,000 prescriptions per day and currently employs more than 165 workers, including pharmacists, technicians, engineers, and software specialists. Humana said additional hiring is planned as prescription demand and pharmacy operations continue expanding.
The investment reflects growing operational emphasis across healthcare on vertically integrated delivery models that combine insurance, pharmacy fulfillment, primary care, and home-based services into coordinated patient management systems.
Humana increasingly has positioned CenterWell as the infrastructure layer supporting that strategy. The company operates more than 200 primary care locations and nearly 50 home health branches across Florida while also serving more than 1.1 million Medicare Advantage members in the state.
The pharmacy distribution center adds additional scale to the medication fulfillment component of that ecosystem, particularly as healthcare organizations seek to improve medication adherence, reduce care fragmentation, and manage chronic disease populations more efficiently.
CenterWell Pharmacy President Bethanie Stein said the facility is intended to improve long-term medication access and support patient adherence through higher-capacity, technology-enabled fulfillment operations.
Mail-order and specialty pharmacy infrastructure have become increasingly important operational assets for insurers and care-delivery organizations as prescription volumes rise, specialty drug utilization grows, and patients increasingly expect direct-to-home medication access.
Humana said the Orlando facility also supports newer direct-to-consumer and direct-to-employer pharmacy fulfillment partnerships, signaling continued expansion beyond traditional insurance-linked dispensing models.
Operationally, the center incorporates automated dispensing systems and logistics workflows designed to improve fulfillment speed, accuracy, and scalability. Humana reported a nationwide dispensing accuracy rate of 99.9992% across CenterWell Pharmacy operations.
The facility becomes CenterWell Pharmacy’s third U.S. mail-order distribution center alongside existing operations in Arizona and Ohio. The Orlando location was selected in part because of access to a growing specialty pharmacy workforce and proximity to regional patient populations across the Southeast.
Humana also emphasized workforce development as part of the expansion, including no-cost pharmacy technician licensing training programs for workers entering the field.
The investment comes as Florida’s aging population continues driving increased demand for pharmacy services, chronic disease management, home-based care, and integrated healthcare coordination. Healthcare companies operating in Medicare Advantage and senior-focused care markets increasingly are building localized infrastructure aimed at improving patient retention, operational efficiency, and care continuity across multiple service lines.
CenterWell President Dr. Sanjay Shetty said the expanded pharmacy infrastructure deepens Humana’s ability to support whole-person care through more coordinated and personalized service delivery.
