ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — Orange County residents will have the opportunity to weigh in on a proposed road project aimed at addressing anticipated traffic growth in the region. A public hearing is scheduled for Tuesday, June 2, at 9 a.m. in downtown Orlando at the Orange County Administration building to discuss the widening of Chuluota Road.
Currently, Chuluota Road is a two-lane road between Colonial Drive and Lake Pickett Road.
The road sees between 11,500 and 15,400 vehicles daily, but a study predicts this number could rise to between 17,800 and 21,600 by 2048. Without intervention, the road would receive an F rating for level of service.
The county is considering expanding the road to four lanes, adding a median, a six-foot-wide sidewalk on one side, and a 10-foot path on the other. A roundabout at the intersection with Long Boat Lane and Cypress Lake Glen Boulevard is also under consideration.
Local resident Alexandra Balda, who lives off Chuluota Road, runs a candle-making business from her garage. While she enjoys the current quietness of the area, she acknowledges that the growth could bring more customers for her business.
Massive nearby developments, including the Grow and Sustanee, are expected to contribute significantly to the increased traffic. The county aims to address these future demands with the proposed road improvements.
