United Airlines plans to commence a new service between 
Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) and 
Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL) from October. This will be flown with the airline’s Boeing 737 MAX 99 aircraft, and United will face direct competition at the airport against 
Delta Air Lines and JetBlue.
With United set to commence the new service from October 29, the airline will initially operate five times weekly, before increasing to double daily between December 17 and January 4, 12 times weekly then through to March 8, and then back to twice per day from March 9, according to Aeroroutes.
Double Daily Services Between Los Angeles And Fort Lauderdale

While United is starting conservatively with just five weekly flights from Los Angeles to Fort Lauderdale, this will rapidly increase as the carrier gets closer to Christmas, with up to two daily flights leaving the City of Angels to Fort Lauderdale from December 17. With a total capacity of 179, United’s MAX 9 will provide over 7,000 available seats in each direction in December, 9,300 in January, and 8,500 in February.

United’s schedule is well-timed for a morning departure from Los Angeles and late afternoon arrival in Fort Lauderdale. Return flights leave Fort Lauderdale in the middle of the afternoon, for an early evening arrival back to Los Angeles. Schedule as below for route launch:

Stiff Competition Against Delta Air Lines And JetBlue

United Airlines will be looking to soak up the demand left by Spirit Airlines’ collapse and exit from this route; the airline will still face direct competition from two other carriers presently flying between the two airports. JetBlue remains the largest carrier by far between Los Angeles and Fort Lauderdale, with data from Cirium showing the airline maintains between four and six daily flights.
JetBlue’s large presence on the route caters to between 22,000 and 29,000 seats per month (an average of 700 to 935 per day), and flies the route with its Airbus A320. Further airline details below:

Delta Air Lines will remain the second-largest carrier serving the route, with double daily services providing a total of 11,640 seats per month, an average of approximately 388 per day. The SkyTeam carrier deploys its A321neo on the airport pair.

Another Destination In The United Network From Fort Lauderdale

United’s latest addition from Fort Lauderdale adds to the airline’s existing network from FLL. With the new service to Los Angeles, this will bring United’s full offering at FLL to eight routes, including two non-stop services to the United States west coast.

The service to Los Angeles becomes United’s second-longest route from Fort Lauderdale, covering a total distance of 2,342 miles (3,796 kilometers). This sits just behind the operator’s longest route to 
San Francisco International Airport (SFO), which covers a distance of 2,579 miles (4,150 kilometers). The third-longest route from Fort Lauderdale by United is to 
Denver International Airport (DEN) at 1,703 miles (2,740 kilometers).
Onboard the United MAX 9, which will fly from Fort Lauderdale to Los Angeles (and return), the aircraft can seat a total of 179 passengers across three classes: United First, Economy Plus, and Economy. All seats include in-seat power and provide onboard WiFi.
