The Thornton Park Neighborhood Association’s Gardening & Beautification Committee recently installed a permanent seed exchange at Kaleidoscope/Solai Coffee at 712 E. Washington St.
The seed exchange is housed in what looks similar to a Little Free Library. The committee thanks Felicia Vestal at Kaleidoscope for agreeing to host the seed exchange, and for enlisting her friend Hector Coreano to build it.
“It’s been wild,” Vestal wrote. “People have been taking and leaving stuff like crazy. Someone dropped off a ton again the other day. I have been adding seeds, too.”
The exchange is attached to the front fence at Kaleidoscope, where it has great visibility. Well over 200 seed packets of flowers and native plants have already been left and taken by gardening enthusiasts.
The committee reminds folks to bring back new seeds to replenish the exchange. Seeds for vegetables, flowers, herbs, native Florida plants, shrubs and trees are all welcome.
Seeds should be cleaned and put in small packets labeled with their name (ideally common and Latin names), year collected and any gardening tips, such as whether it needs full sun or lots of water.

Thornton Park now has a seed exchange, which has been very popular, in front of Kaleidoscope at 712 E. Washington St. (LOGAN LAMPHERE)
