The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office says the inmate was taken to a local hospital after “being found in medical distress.”

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — An investigation is underway after the recent death of an inmate in the custody of the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.

JSO says the inmate, 46-year-old Benjamin Todd Daley, was taken to a local hospital on Tuesday, May 26, after “being found in medical distress.”

The agency says that detectives were notified of Daley’s death just before 8 a.m. the following day.

While the investigation into Daley’s death is underway, JSO says that no foul play is suspected.

Daley was arrested in March 2026 for charges of battery on a person 65 years of age or older and possession of drug paraphernalia.
