The FSU Seminoles and St. John’s Red Storm are playing in the first game of the Tallahassee Regional on Friday at Dick Howser Stadium. The winner will be in an excellent spot to contend for the regional title, with the loser falling into the losers’ bracket.

FSU earned the No. 10 overall seed in the NCAA Tournament after going 38-17 overall and 19-11 in ACC play. The Seminoles are well rested, playing just one game last week, and are expected to have everybody back, including reliever John Abraham.

Florida State has been much better at home all season, going 27-4. All four losses came against SEC or ACC programs, something the Seminoles will not have to face this weekend. FSU is not starting ace Wes Mendes, instead turning to Bryson Moore. He has a 3.88 ERA in 62.2 innings this season, with opponents hitting .211 off him, with 59 strikeouts and 24 walks.

St. John’s (33-24, 15-6 Big East) is on a five-game winning streak after winning the Big East Tournament to qualify for the NCAA Tournament. Their offense is scoring 6.2 runs per game and is led by Adam Agresi, who made the All-Big East First Team. The catcher is hitting .291 with 17 home runs, 14 doubles, 48 RBI, and has a slugging percentage of .611

FSU 7, St. John’s 3: The Seminoles are 6-0 under Link Jarrett in the regional round, and that should continue on Friday against St. John’s. The Red Storm has a solid ace in Liam O’Leary, but FSU’s offense has been better all year at home and should be able to do enough to get the job done.
