The Syracuse University volleyball team (13-8, 5-6 ACC) dropped a four-set decision to Florida State on Friday night at Tully Gymnasium, falling 25-18, 25-23, 19-25, 25-14. The Orange fought back to win the third set but couldn’t sustain momentum in the final frame.

Gabby McLaughlin led Syracuse with 15 kills and 12 digs for her 13th double-double of the season. Skylar George added 14 kills while hitting .231, and Tehya Maeva distributed 38 assists. The Orange posted seven service aces led by three each from McLaughlin and George.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Florida State built an early lead in the opening set and Syracuse couldn’t recover, dropping it 25-18. The Orange hit just .057 in the frame while committing six attack errors.

The second set was a tighter affair with Syracuse battling throughout. The Orange pulled even at 15-15 and stayed within striking distance, but Florida State closed on a run to take the set 25-23.

Syracuse came out with renewed energy in the third set, jumping ahead early. McLaughlin fired off three straight service aces to push the lead to 14-8, and the Orange never looked back in a 25-19 victory.

The fourth set saw Florida State seize control early with an 8-2 run to open the frame. Syracuse couldn’t mount a comeback as the Seminoles hit an efficient .583 in the set to close out the match 25-14.

Skylar George posted 14 kills on a .231 hitting percentage.
Tehya Maeva dished out 38 assists and added five kills on a .455 hitting percentage.

Zharia Harris-Waddy tallied five total blocks to lead the Orange defensive effort.
Sydnie Waller provided a spark off the bench with six kills on a .333 hitting percentage.

The Orange will have a chance to bounce back when they take on #15 Miami on the road this Sunday. The match with the Hurricanes is set for a 12 p.m. start and will air on ACC Network Extra.
