A South Florida food truck owner is trying to figure out how to move forward after she says someone stole her generator. Gas station surveillance cameras caught the alleged thief in the act.
Katherine Hernandez, the owner of Pineapple Express Bar, has served Miami’s West Little River community for the last 10 years and has set up shop at a gas station for the last three.
“It’s taken care of me and my family this entire time, so it’s everything,” Hernandez said.
She said she’s never had any problems until last Friday. Hernandez went to sit in her truck for a few moments, and when she went back to her food truck, she realized there was no power. Then she noticed her generator was gone.
She went inside the gas station to check the surveillance cameras, and her worst nightmare came true.
Hernandez watched someone get out of a truck, unplug her generator and put it in the back seat. Then the driver takes off.
“I didn’t expect that, I’ve never had something like that happen to me or my business,” Hernandez said. “I was so shocked and confused. For something like that to happen was a blow.”
A detective with the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office is investigating. Hernandez posted the surveillance video to social media, hoping to get some answers of her own.
“To let my fellow food truck workers to be aware,” Hernandez said. “I also wanted to see if someone knew something. It’s not a great chance to get my generator back, but to catch them would be great.”
