DELTONA, Fla. (WFLA) — A man was arrested in Deltona on Thursday for driving 105 miles per hour through heavy traffic with his 5-year-old child as a passenger without a car seat, according to authorities.

The Volusia Sheriff’s Office said Daniel Alphonse reached speeds up to 105 mph while driving on Howard Boulevard.

Body camera video shows the moment deputies spotted his 5-year-old son sitting in the back seat.

Deputies handcuffed Alphonse and called the mother of the 5-year-old, according to video.

“He was doing 105 miles an hour in a 45 mile an hour speed limit zone through heavy traffic with your son in the back seat of the car,” the deputy said to the mother.

“What?” she responded in apparent shock.

Deputies talked to the 5-year-old before giving him a fidget spinner as he waited to be picked up by a family member.

Alphonse was arrested on child neglect, reckless driving and super speeder violation charges, VSO said.
