The dirt bike collided with a pick-up truck on 70th Avenue.
PINELLAS PARK, Fla. — A 15-year-old boy is in critical condition after his e-dirt bike collided with a pick-up truck.
It happened Friday just before 9 p.m., according to Pinellas Park police.
The teen was driving his bike in the main travel lanes of 70th Avenue. Police say the bike was not equipped with lights and the teen was not wearing a helmet.
A pick-up truck, also traveling on 70th Avenue, rear ended the dirt bike while it was in motion.
The driver of the truck, a 71-year-old Pinellas Park man, stayed on scene and cooperated with the investigation.
The teenager was hospitalized with serious injuries and remains in critical condition.
Police say speed and impairment do not appear to be factors in the crash.
It is illegal to operate an e-dirt bike on the roadways in Florida. State law requires all e-bicycles to be equipped with operational pedals and not exceed 28 mph.
The investigation remains ongoing.
