The driver is charged with leaving the scene of a crash involving death.

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — A garbage truck driver for the city of St. Petersburg could face jail time after fatally striking a pedestrian and leaving the scene.

It happened near 17 3rd Street North at 6:30 a.m. Saturday.

St. Petersburg Police officers say the driver, 51-year-old Nathan Brown, was driving down an alley in the area when he struck a woman who was lying down in the alley. Brown did not stop after the crash.

Officers were called to the scene where they found the victim, a 49-year-old woman, deceased.

The victim’s identity will be released pending next of kin notification.

The crash remains under investigation.
