TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – After rainy weather pushed first pitch back over two hours, it was 10 seeded Florida State who ended up all wet. The Seminoles let the St. John’s Red Storm score three unanswered in the final two innings to knock off the hosts of the Tallahassee Regional, 6-5.
FSU started the game hot, with a leadoff shot from John Stuetzer on the first pitch to a Seminole batter in the bottom of the first. SJU would answer with a solo home run of its own in the second, but the ‘Noles would respond right away with Gabe Fraser’s first homer of the year to lead, 2-1 after two.
The FSU lead would grow to 5-3 until the eighth when the Seminole bullpen would allow runners on the corners with no outs before a John Abraham wild pitch and a Hunter Carns passed ball would tie the game.
The Johnnies would take the lead in the top of the ninth following an RBI single from Jayder Raifstanger to eventually pull off the upset, 6-5.
FSU now looks to keep its season alive on Saturday where it will face the loser of Friday night’s contest between Northern Illinois and Coastal Carolina.
