HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. (WWSB) – A Hillsborough County Sheriff’s deputy was arrested on DUI-related charges after a traffic stop in Citrus Park late Saturday, the sheriff’s office said.
Deputies conducted a traffic stop near Gunn Highway and Normandie Road at about 11:34 p.m. May 30 and observed signs of impairment from the driver, Richard Michael Garcia, 32, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies said Garcia refused to participate in standardized field sobriety exercises and refused to provide a breath sample.

Garcia was arrested and charged with driving under the influence and refusal to submit to testing.
The sheriff’s office said Garcia has been placed on administrative leave without pay pending the outcome of an internal affairs investigation.
Garcia has been employed by the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office since November 2020.
