Art OUT returns to St. Pete this June with a colorful, two-stop showcase to celebrate Pride Month. Now in its ninth year, the show kicks off at the James Museum (150 Central Ave) before settling in at the Gulfport Public Library (5501 28th Ave S) for the rest of the month.

This year’s exhibition features more than 100 pieces from 50 artists, offering a vibrant mix of perspectives, mediums, and voices from across the community. From the openly joyful to the deeply personal, the show spans everything from painting and sculpture to photography and mixed media.

The opening reception takes place at the James Museum Tuesday, June 2, from 6-8 pm, and tickets are available here. Priced at $25, admission includes beer, wine, light bites, and a complimentary pass to the James Museum of Western and Wildlife Art. 

The evening is designed to be a lively, come-as-you-are gathering, with live entertainment and plenty of opportunities to meet and chat with the artists. A panel of jurors—John Gascot, Tracey “Artist” Jones, Mark Williams, and Jan Richardson—will announce this year’s award winners during the event, adding an extra layer of excitement to the night.

It’s an easy way to elevate a Tuesday evening and support local artists as Pride Month kicks off in St. Pete.

A show with staying power

If you can’t make the reception, don’t worry, the exhibition isn’t going anywhere just yet. After opening night, Art OUT moves to the Gulfport Public Library, where it will remain on display throughout June. 

The library will also host a Pre-Pride Artist Meet & Greet on Saturday, June 6, from 11 am – 1 pm, offering another chance to connect with the artists in a casual setting (no tickets required).

Bringing the show to Gulfport and spreading it across the area makes it even easier to visit, whether you stop in during a lunch break or wander through on a weekend. The library is open Monday through Friday from 10 am – 7 pm and Saturday from 10 am – 4 pm (closed Sunday).

Celebrating queer creativity

Art OUT is organized by OUT Arts & Culture, a local nonprofit focused on uplifting LGBTQ+ voices through creative expression. Each year’s exhibition brings together artists and allies in a way that feels welcoming and rooted in connection. 

At its core, the show is about visibility—highlighting work that might not always find its way into traditional gallery spaces and giving it the attention it deserves. Whether you make a night of the opening reception or set aside time to explore the show later this month, Art OUT offers an easy, fun way to tap into St. Pete’s creative side and celebrate the people behind it.
