Randy Campbell III was arrested in Dallas, Texas in November 2025, three days after the death of Cherrish Nunley.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — More than six months after the death of a 24-year-old Jacksonville woman, her alleged killer is back in Jacksonville to face prosecution.

Records show that Randy Campbell III, 31, was booked into the Duval County jail on May 31.

Campbell is accused of shooting and killing Cherrish Nunley on November 15, 2025, and then fleeing the state.

Nunley was discovered shot in the parking lot outside of a gym on Sunbeam Road in Mandarin, according to police. She left behind a sister and two young children, the youngest of whom was Campbell’s son, according to family. They identified him as Nunley’s ex-boyfriend.

Three days after her murder, Campbell was arrested in Dallas, Texas, where he remained pending extradition. First Coast Crime Stoppers said an anonymous tip led law enforcement to him.

Campbell is charged with second-degree murder with a weapon and is being held without bond. His arraignment was tentatively scheduled for June 23, 2026.

Nunley’s sister, Justine Donaldson, told First Coast News she will be at every court date until the case is closed.

“For months, my family has lived with a grief that most people cannot imagine,” Donaldson wrote in a statement. “Every holiday, every birthday, every family gathering, every milestone has had an empty space where Cher should be. There isn’t a day that goes by that I don’t think about my sister. There isn’t a day that goes by that her children don’t need their mother.

“People see an arrest and think it brings closure. The truth is, there is no closure. There is no arrest, conviction, or sentence that will bring my sister back. Nothing will ever change the fact that her children have to grow up without her. Nothing will ever change the fact that our family has spent months trying to learn how to survive a nightmare we never asked for.

“What this does bring is a step toward accountability.”
