Babcock Ranch officials hosted a kickoff celebration to preview the community’s new 255,000-square-foot Curry Commerce Center, a commercial flex and light industrial complex designed to support a mix of businesses, including office, showroom, warehouse, service, distribution, trade and light manufacturing uses.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers kicker Chase McLaughlin joined Babcock Ranch founder Syd Kitson for the May 28 celebration, where nearly 400 prospective businesses, entrepreneurs, residents and community members gathered for a first look at the eight-building complex.

The football-themed event featured a meet-and-greet with McLaughlin and Kitson, tours of showroom and tenant spaces, and a surprise performance by the Island Coast High School Marching Band. Guests also enjoyed tailgate-inspired food, games, giveaways and interactive activities.

The football theme was fitting. Kitson played in the NFL as an offensive guard for the Green Bay Packers and Dallas Cowboys.

Kitson & Partners developed Curry Commerce Center as part of its long-range vision to create a fully integrated hometown where residents can live, work and play without leaving the community.

Among the center’s first tenants will be Family Initiative, an autism services provider offering clinical and community support for children and families, and Primer, a private K-8 microschool that combines homeschooling flexibility with a traditional school structure.

“Babcock Ranch was always envisioned as far more than a residential community,” said Kitson, chair and CEO of Kitson & Partners. “As our population and business base continue to grow, Curry Commerce Center creates new opportunities for companies seeking modern, strategically located commercial space in one of the most dynamic growth corridors in Southwest Florida.”

The event also highlighted a limited-time leasing incentive for new and relocating businesses. The first 10 leases signed at Curry Commerce Center may qualify for up to one year of free rent, subject to terms and availability.

Located near State Road 31 with regional access, Curry Commerce Center is intended to attract new and expanding businesses seeking to serve the growing populations of Charlotte and Lee counties. The project also supports Babcock Ranch’s ongoing economic development efforts focused on job creation and business recruitment, officials said.

Babcock Ranch continues to expand its commercial footprint following last year’s completion of The Shoppes at Yellow Pine, which includes a mix of national and regional retailers, restaurants and a Tampa General Hospital urgent care center.

B Street, a walkable plaza featuring dining, retail, office, commercial and residential space, is under construction. Meanwhile, Florida Gulf Coast University is building a research center in MidTown, where construction is also underway on Babcock Ranch’s second Publix-anchored shopping center.

The opening of Curry Commerce Center comes during another strong year for Babcock Ranch, which recently surpassed 6,000 home sales.

The community is planned for 20,000 residences and approximately 6 million square feet of commercial space.

Earlier this year, Babcock Ranch reported its strongest first quarter on record. Kitson & Partners officials attributed the performance to continued demand for resilient infrastructure, sustainability-focused development and lifestyle-oriented amenities.
