ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (WFLA) — A man was arrested Tuesday in connection with a fatal shooting that occurred in downtown St. Pete on Memorial Day.
Just before 3 a.m., officers with the St. Petersburg Police Department were called to 1st Avenue North and Beach Drive Northeast, the area near South Straub Park.

Police said that on that night, an altercation broke out during which 29-year-old Peter-Austin Afentakis was shot. He was taken to the hospital, where he later died from his injuries.
On Tuesday, the St. Petersburg Police Department arrested 25-year-old Jacob Carreras and charged him with second-degree murder in connection with the shooting.
According to St. Petersburg Police, the U.S. Marshals Service took Carreras into custody in Hillsborough County and he will be extradited to Pinellas County.
