The Washington Nationals look to avoid a series sweep at home at the hands of the Miami Marlins on Wednesday.

The Miami Marlins go for the series sweep against the Washington Nationals on the road on Wednesday afternoon. The Marlins have won the first two games by the exact same score, 7-3. These past two wins come after Miami lost five straight games. The Marlins now lead the season series 4-1 after winning two of three in the second week of May at home against the Nationals. Miami is now 28-34 on the season and 10-19 on the road, and still in fourth place in the NL East standings. The Marlins are 3.5 games back of the third-place Nationals, who fell back down to .500 with back-to-back losses at 31-31 and continue to struggle at home with a 12-19 record. Despite Miami winning consecutive games, this finale is considered a toss-up, with both teams listed at -110 on Wednesday. Miami should have a better shot than that to earn the sweep, considering it is starting Max Meyer today. The righty is looking to stay perfect on the season, with a 5-0 record and a 2.97 ERA in 66.2 innings. The Nationals will start Andrew Alvarez, who is 1-0 with a 4.02 ERA in 15.2 innings pitched.

The Marlins won the opener 7-3 on Monday largely by hitting three homers, and Miami did the exact same thing on Tuesday to win again 7-3. The Marlins were the first to get on the board in the fifth inning to go up 4-0 with homers from Joe Mack, Heriberto Hernandez, and Otto Lopez consecutively. The Nationals were held hitless until the sixth inning, but they scored three runs across the sixth and seventh innings to get within a run. But Washington couldn’t get closer as Miami scored three more insurance runs in the ninth, highlighted by another two-run shot from Hernandez.
