Firefighters knock down Stuart house fire possibly caused by lightning strike

STUART, Fla. (CBS12) — All occupants of a Stuart home are safe after a house fire on Wednesday morning, according to Martin County Fire Rescue.

Firefighters responded to a home on Southeast St. Lucie Boulevard, where officials said the fire started on the second floor.

According to Martin County Fire Rescue, the flames burned about two bedrooms before firefighters were able to quickly stop the fire from spreading to the rest of the house.

Stuart Fire Rescue and the Martin County Sheriff’s Office also responded to the scene.

Initial reports indicate the fire may have been caused by a possible lightning strike. The State Fire Marshal will conduct a further investigation.

Roads in the area were expected to remain closed while crews checked for hot spots and worked to make sure the fire did not reignite.

Drivers were asked to seek alternate routes.
