South Jacksonville crews began flushing hydrants on Tuesday to ensure hydrants are functional and to help maintain water quality in the village.

Flushing will continue between 7 a.m. and 2 p.m. through Friday. No hydrants will be flushed after 2 p.m.

Water will remain safe for use by village residents while the flushing takes place, though some resident may see water discoloration during the process. Residents should avoid using discolored water until it clears.

Throughout the process, residents are encouraged to:

• run cold water from a bathtub or outdoor spigot for several minutes to help clear discolored  water; and

• avoid washing clothes until the water is clear. If clothes are discolored or stained because of rust, residents should contact the village at 217-245-4803 for a rust remover to help remove stains.
