TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – The Leon County Sheriff’s Office hosted a memorial service Wednesday morning honoring and remembering the dedicated service of its fallen soldiers.
Four deputies and one K-9 were honored at Wednesday’s ceremony. Peace lilies were placed throughout the memorial, flags were lowered in remembrance, and a wreath was also placed to honor those being remembered.
Family members of those being honored were able to lay roses in honor of their loved ones at the memorial as well. Sheriff Walt McNeil said it’s important to remember those who lost their lives protecting and supporting the community.

“Law enforcement is actually an organization, a fraternity that allows us to have the benefits we have, to live in a safe society and that comes with a cost and that cost comes, often times, come in a life being lost,” McNeil said.
The sheriff said this annual event is never easy but necessary to show how much each service member matters to the community.
Former LCSO also attended Wednesday’s ceremony.
