The new Brevard County campus will include a hospital, medical office building and emergency department, with more than 1,000 jobs expected.

Orlando Health has announced plans to build a new 240-bed hospital in Viera, advancing its reach in Brevard County as health systems compete to add capacity in one of Central Florida’s growing markets.

Orlando Health Viera Hospital will be built on a planned 40-acre health and wellness campus in Borrows West, a mixed-use area between Lake Andrew Drive and Interstate 95, just south of Viera Boulevard. Orlando Health expects to break ground this month.

The project will include a seven-story regional hospital and a three-story, 60,000-square-foot medical office building. The hospital will be built in phases, with the emergency department expected to open in the fall of 2027. The hospital is expected to have 240 beds.

Orlando Health said the hospital will include emergency services, imaging, laboratory services, pharmacy, surgical suites, catheterization labs and support areas for acute care services. The medical office building will house specialty practices focused on cardiovascular health, neurosciences and other areas of medicine.

The health system is working with The Viera Co. on the expansion project.

“This is an exciting day for this region and for Orlando Health as we move forward with plans for this state-of-the-art facility,” Ohme Entin, president of Orlando Health East Region and senior vice president of Orlando Health, said in a press release announcing the plans. “With the addition of this new facility, we will continue to build on the level of healthcare services that the community deserves and has come to expect from Orlando Health.”

The project is expected to bring more than 1,000 additional jobs to the region. Orlando Health currently employs more than 2,100 staff members and physicians across Brevard and Indian River counties through Orlando Health Melbourne Hospital, Orlando Health Sebastian River Hospital and several dozen physician practices.

The system did not disclose the cost of the project.

The Viera hospital is part of Orlando Health’s broader expansion strategy. The health system lists the Viera hospital among facilities in development, along with hospitals planned in Wiregrass Ranch and Lakeland Highlands, as well as an Anniston, Alabama, hospital expected to join the system this fall.

The expansion follows a period of strain for Brevard County providers after Orlando Health closed Rockledge Hospital in April 2025. Health First in 2025 stated that local providers worked to maintain access to care, while the system expanded emergency and inpatient capacity, absorbed an 18% to 20% patient surge and accelerated plans for new freestanding emergency departments.

Todd J. Pokrywa, president of The Viera Co., said the Orlando Health campus reflects Viera’s long-term plan to include medical services and employment centers in the community’s growth.
