Once, as many as six jewelry stores operated in the heart of downtown Fort Pierce. Today, Sweet’s is the only one still standing, a testament to its resilience through economic downturns, shifting retail landscapes, pandemic closures, and even the occasional fury of Mother Nature. Its endurance is not just unusual; it is extraordinary.
Located at 209 Avenue A in historic downtown, Sweet’s Jewelers has been a family-owned fixture since its founding in 1926. For a century, it has served the Treasure Coast with personalized service, distinctive jewelry, and expert repair work – the kind of craftsmanship and care that keeps generations of customers coming back.
The store was originally opened by local couple Mr. and Mrs. Sweet, whose first names have been lost to time but whose legacy remains firmly rooted in the community. In 1943, shortly after relocating from Washington, Missouri, jeweler John Noelke purchased the business from the Sweets. From that moment on, Sweet’s Jewelers became a Noelke family tradition.
Today, the shop is owned and operated by Noelke’s granddaughter, Jan Russell, who has guided the business for nearly four decades. Before her, the store was run by her mother, Rosalie Arnold, while Rosalie’s brother, Lee Noelke, continued working as a jeweler well into his 80s. Today, jeweler Michael Huff is in his third decade of honing his craft at Sweet’s, adding to the continuity and expertise that define the store.
