A death investigation was underway Sunday after a man was found in the water off downtown Fort Lauderdale, police said.
Shortly after 5 a.m., Fort Lauderdale police arrived at the 200 block of Southwest Second Avenue in response to a report of a possible drowning, police spokesperson Casey Liening said via email.
Several witnesses said a man had gone in the water. Police, Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue and the Broward Sheriff’s Office Aviation Unit searched the area and located the man.
He was pronounced dead at Broward Health Medical Center. Police did not release his name.
Liening said detectives were investigating to determine what happened.
