BOCA RATON, F.L. (WITN) – An Eastern Carolina police chief is heading to Florida for a new job.
Jacksonville Police Chief Jarad Phelps was given a conditional offer of employment for police chief in Boca Raton, Florida.
The city said a national search netted 105 applications, with 77 applicants meeting the job requirements. Phelps was among two finalists for the job.
Assistant Chief Nicholas Augustine of the Montgomery County, Maryland Police Department was the other finalist.
Phelps has been in Jacksonville for just two years. Before coming to Jacksonville, he served 28 years with the Prince William County Police Department in Virginia. He ended his career there as deputy police chief.
Boca Raton says the job offer is contingent on Phelps’ successful completion of its pre-employment process, while an official start date will be announced later.
