NEW SMYRNA BEACH, Fla. (CBS12) — A search is underway for two missing boaters in New Smyrna Beach on Tuesday, with multiple agencies working together to locate them.

According to the New Smyrna Beach Police Department, the two people were last seen and heard from around 6 a.m. on June 8 after leaving from Lake Helen. Concern grew after their vehicle and boat trailer were found at the Swoop Boat Ramp later that day.

The department’s Marine Unit is now actively searching alongside the U.S. Coast Guard, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, and the Volusia Sheriff’s Office. Officials say the pair had planned to go fishing about 30 miles offshore, but it’s not clear how far they actually made it.

Authorities believe the boaters are on board a white, 25-foot Carolina Classic vessel. A photo of the boat has been shared in hopes that someone may have seen it.
