Jacksonville veterans’ groups are joining to celebrate the nation’s 250th anniversary in style: with a flag-raising ceremony and community cookout.
American Legion Post 279 of Jacksonville, 903 W. Superior Ave., is hosting the July 4 event.
It will begin with a noon ceremony in front of the legion building. After a short flag raising, invocation and comments, free hot dogs and hamburgers will be served inside starting about 12:15 p.m.
American Legion Post 279 is being joined by Amvets Post 100 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1379 in presenting the event, with sponsorship by Jones Meat & Locker.
