MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) – In a turn of events, a Florida dog rescue determined a dog formerly housed at Ridglan Farms did not die from an alligator attack and was found safe Wednesday night.
Big Dog Ranch Rescue announced Thursday that the dog, named Omelette, was spotted running across a road and was taken into safety Wednesday night.
The rescue, located in Loxahatchee, Florida, said it received a call at 6 p.m. Saturday that Omelette had escaped through his new owner’s fence.
The body of a dog, believed to be Omelette, was found in a canal about 100 feet from the adopter’s home.
Officials believed the dog had died after an apparent alligator attack.
Big Dog Rescue explained that Omelette and the deceased dog have similar coloring, so officials thought the dog was Omelette.
“While we are incredibly grateful that Omelette is safe, our hearts are with the family who may still be searching for their beloved dog,” Big Dog Ranch Rescue said. “Thank you to everyone who prayed, shared, searched, and supported us throughout this emotional journey. Your kindness and dedication helped bring Omelette home.”
Big Dog Ranch Rescue said Omelette will go to a foster home while officials determine his next steps.
Hundreds of beagles were released from Ridglan Farms recently after an agreement between the Town of Blue Mounds facility and national rescue groups. The dogs were distributed to rescues, foster homes and adopters across the country.
