VERO BEACH — This year, residents of all ages, backgrounds and cultures will have a chance to come together as Vero Beach celebrates America’s 250th birthday with a series of events leading up to Independence Day.

Known as USA All Day 250, the celebration includes everything from a 4K run and time capsule ceremony to a colonial costume ball, parade and fireworks display.

While the events commemorate a milestone in the nation’s history, organizers hope they also provide an opportunity for neighbors, families and visitors to celebrate together.

The festivities kicked off May 26 with a proclamation ceremony at Vero Beach City Hall and continue June 27 with the USA All Day 4K, presented by Runner’s Depot at Pocahontas Park.

“As we celebrate America’s 250th anniversary, I encourage everyone to join us for USA All Day as we honor the values of freedom, unity and civic pride that continue to define our country and our community,” said Tammy Bursick, the city’s events coordinator. “We invite the whole community to come out and be a part of these exciting events.”

One of the celebration’s signature events takes place July 3 at the Heritage Center, where local municipalities, community leaders and sponsors will gather for the Time Capsule Ceremony, sponsored by Overlay Pros. The capsules will remain sealed until 2076, offering future generations a glimpse into life in Indian River County during the nation’s 250th year.

Later that evening, the Heritage Center will host the 1776 Colonial Costume Ball, presented by Fabulous & Fancy Events and Vero Heritage, Inc. The event will feature live music, dancing, games, a costume contest, heavy hors d’oeuvres and a cash bar. Colonial-inspired attire is encouraged, but not required.

“The Fourth of July reminds us that our nation’s strength has always come from the people who choose to serve their communities, preserve our shared history and work together for a brighter future,” said Indian River County Commissioner Laura Moss. “We encourage everyone to come out and celebrate these events together in unity.”

The celebration continues July 4 with a full day of activities throughout Vero Beach. The Independence Day Parade will travel through downtown from 10 a.m. to noon, followed by an antique car display presented by members of the Indian River Antique Automobile Club of America (AACA) at the Vero Beach Railroad Station & Exhibit Center. A 250th birthday cake provided by Sam’s Club and an art display will also be featured at the Community Center.

Later in the day, Riverside Park will host food vendors, children’s activities, live music, contests, prizes and a veterans ceremony. The evening concludes with a fireworks display presented by the City of Vero Beach and its sponsors over the Indian River Lagoon.

“From the parade to the fireworks, USA All Day celebrates the enduring spirit of independence, patriotism and community that defines our nation,” said Vero Beach City Council Member Aaron Voss. “We invite residents and visitors alike to join us for a day of family-friendly festivities, hometown pride and a memorable celebration of America’s birthday.”
