Lawanna Gezler, longtime community activist and current candidate for Orlando City Commissioner, is helping District 5 with 250 boxes of food to fill the current SNAP gap of benefits as the federal government shutdown continues.
Lawanna Gelzer found funding for the food assistance outside of the government, and her supporters say it is another example of how District 5 can benefit by electing her the next Orlando City Commissioner on November 4th.
Supporters said Gelzer is ready to help her community and put her experience to work for the people who need it most. She is planning on doing as many of these food distributions as she can.
The community food give away is set for November 2nd from 2pm to 5pm at the Ms. Betty Resilience HUB at 825 W Washington Street, Orlando 32805. It is open for anyone in need.
“We are here for our community,” Lawanna Gelzer posted.
The crisis surrounding SNAP and food assistance is a serious local issue in Orlando. Mayor Jerry Demings warned that 175,000 Orange County residents who receive food assistance through SNAP will lose their benefits due to the ongoing federal government shutdown.

While this event is not a campaign event, it is a community event to help those in need due to current situations, many praised Gelzer for taking time away from the many political issues facing the District 5 campaign and focusing on the real issue of local hunger and the need for food assistance in Central Florida.
