Cape Coral will host a public ceremony July 4 to raise a 250-foot American flagpole at Bernice Braden Park, completing a community-funded project created to mark the nation’s 250th anniversary. The event begins at 2 p.m. at the park near the foot of the Cape Coral Bridge. City officials say the free-standing flagpole will be the tallest of its kind in Florida and serve as a permanent symbol of patriotism, unity and civic pride. The project originated with City Manager Michael Ilczyszyn and was approved by City Council, with construction funded through private donations. The ceremony is free and open to the public.
