ONSLOW COUNTY, N.C. (WNCT) — The search for wanted suspect Jarred Louis Mackey has ended after a multi-day manhunt by law enforcement agencies.
Mackey was found deceased from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound in an apartment in Jacksonville.
No other individuals were inside the apartment at the time. The investigation remains ongoing.
According to officials, Mackey is a convicted felon, and they obtained an arrest warrant for the following offenses:
Felony Attempted First-Degree Murder
Felony Assault on a Law Enforcement Officer with a Firearm
Assault by Pointing a Gun
Two Count Resisting a Public Officer
Assault on a Government Official
DETAILS FROM ONSLOW COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE:
Around 3:00 p.m. on Friday, June 12, 2026, deputies responded to the Park West Apartments on
Valencia Drive in Jacksonville, following up on information developed during the investigation.
Members of the Onslow County Sheriff’s Office SWAT Team surrounded the apartment building
and began announcing their presence at the apartment door.
During those announcements, deputies heard a single gunshot from inside the apartment.
Deputies entered the apartment and located Mackey deceased from an apparent self-inflicted
gunshot wound.
No other individuals were inside the apartment at the time. Investigators believe the apartment belonged to an associate of Mackey.
