SARASOTA, Fla. (WWSB) – A mother-daughter team has launched a woman-owned swimwear brand built on sustainable design and functional features.
Monica Young and her daughter Jade Sayas appeared in the Suncoast View studio to showcase their Oh Snap! Swimwear line and towel designs.
Young created the brand on the shores of Siesta Key after observing struggles women face with traditional swimsuits. The swimsuits feature a zippered swim pocket for valuables. The snap-closure bottom is optional.
Young brings 25 years of marketing and PR leadership, including roles with the U.S. military and international women’s organizations. After retiring in 2024, she moved from Brussels, Belgium to launch Oh Snap! Swimwear in Tampa.
Sayas is a U.S. Air Force veteran with three master’s degrees, including one in Entrepreneurship. She handles strategy and social media for the brand.
Sustainable materials
The First Wave Collection is made from ECONYL, an Italian fabric crafted from regenerated nylon waste like discarded fishing nets and old carpets. The fabric is 100% recyclable and offers durability, resistance to chlorine, sun creams, and oils, and UV protection of 50+.
The beach towels are a large 71 by 40 inches made from recycled polyethylene terephthalate. Each towel repurposes approximately 20 plastic bottles.\
