MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. (CBS12) — A bill that would rename two well-known South Florida roadways after President Donald Trump and controversial conservative podcaster Charlie Kirk is sitting on Gov. Ron DeSantis’ desk.

The proposal, HB 33, passed during this year’s legislative session, is one of nearly 40 bills lawmakers sent to the governor on Monday. If DeSantis signs it, part of Southwest 107th Avenue in Miami-Dade County would become “Charlie Kirk Memorial Avenue,” while Commercial Boulevard in Lauderdale-by-the-Sea would be renamed “President Donald J. Trump Boulevard.”

Kirk, 31, was the founder of Turning Point USA and a rising figure in conservative politics. He was killed Sept. 10, 2025, while speaking at an outdoor rally at Utah Valley University. A 22-year-old man, Tyler Robinson, was charged in the case and could face the death penalty if convicted.

The road designations would add to a growing list of Florida landmarks named after President Trump. Earlier this year, DeSantis signed bills renaming Palm Beach International Airport and a 124-mile stretch of State Road 80 in his honor.

This latest measure comes as part of a larger batch of legislation now awaiting the governor’s decision. Among them are a bill requiring Citizens Property Insurance to create a clearinghouse for certain commercial insurance policies, another mandating local governments to post budgets online, and a proposal to form a task force focused on electric bicycle safety.

Legislative records show the bill’s last action was June 15, when it was signed by House and Senate officers and formally presented to the governor, a procedural step that means the measure has fully cleared the Legislature and is officially ready for executive review.

DeSantis has until June 30 to decide whether to sign the bills into law, veto them, or let them take effect without his signature.
