THE SPECIAL MEETING HELD TONIGHT WILL ALLOW CITY COUNCIL MEMBERS TO DISCUSS AND REVIEW OPTIONS FOR APPROPRIATE USE OF THE SETTLEMENT FUNDING AND HOW IT SHOULD ALL BE ALLOCATED. SO TO TAKE YOU BACK. THIS ALL STARTED ABOUT FIVE YEARS AGO. THE CITY SUED WASTE PRO IN 2021, CLAIMING THE COMPANY FAILED TO PROVIDE SERVICES, LEAVING RESIDENTS WITH PILES OF TRASH LINED UP FOR MONTHS. YOU COULD SEE THAT THEIR WASTE PRO BLAMED IT ALL ON STAFFING SHORTAGES DUE TO THE PANDEMIC. SO JUST TWO MONTHS AGO IN APRIL, CITY COUNCIL MEMBERS REACHED A SETTLEMENT WITH WASTE PRO TO DISMISS THIS CASE. THE CITY RECEIVED $24 MILLION. PORT SAINT LUCIE WAS GIVEN A NEW WASTE PROVIDER IN 2022.
