JACKSONVILLE, N.C. — A Jacksonville man is facing numerous charges after police say he fled from an attempted traffic stop and drove at speeds topping 120 miles per hour through the city.
According to charging documents, 21-year-old Hayden Marshall is charged with felony fleeing to elude arrest with a motor vehicle, along with multiple traffic offenses, including speeding, unsafe lane changes, running red lights and stop signs, driving without liability insurance, and hit-and-run involving property damage.
Investigators say a Jacksonville police officer attempted to stop Marshall on Gum Branch Road on Tuesday. Charging documents allege Marshall accelerated away, reaching speeds of 120 miles per hour in a 45-mile-per-hour zone on Gum Branch Road and 93 miles per hour in a 35-mile-per-hour zone on Onsville Drive.
Authorities also allege Marshall made multiple unsafe lane changes at high speeds and ran several red lights during the incident.
According to charging documents, Marshall was involved in a crash near Gum Branch Road and U.S. 17 that resulted in more than $1,000 in property damage. Investigators allege he struck traffic signal guide wires and failed to stop afterward.
Marshall was arrested by the Jacksonville Police Department and booked into the Onslow County Jail under a secured bond.
