A Miami Beach man was arrested after police said he used a box cutter to slash a giant inflatable FIFA soccer ball.
Jorden Perozo, 34, was arrested Monday on a criminal mischief charge, Miami-Dade jail records showed.
According to an arrest report, a witness had reported that a man on an electric scooter slashed a giant inflatable FIFA ball at 71st Street and Rue Vendome.
The decorative balls have been placed around town for the World Cup to celebrate the teams participating in the event, and the one that was slashed was Uruguay-themed.
The suspect, Perozo, left on a scooter but was found with the help of city security cameras, the report said.
Perozo told investigators he “was intoxicated and did not remember anything,” but later gave a full confession and said he did it “because he thought it was funny,” the report said.
The report said he told investigators he was remorseful.
Perozo appeared in bond court on Tuesday where a Miami Beach Police detective was asked about the damage done to the ball.
“I was advised it was about $3,125 dollars approximately,” Det. Pablo Gonzalez said.
The judge set Perozo’s bond at $2,500 but noted that he’s already out on felony bond for a separate case involving fleeing and eluding, resisting an officer without violence and disorderly conduct.
