PORT ST. LUCIE – A 25-year-old man was arrested for violating the state “super speeder law” after he was stopped on Crosstown Parkway for allegedly driving about 100 mph, according to a Port St. Lucie Police Facebook posting.
Tyreek Jermein Russell was stopped by a Port St. Lucie traffic officer along the Crosstown Parkway Bridge on June 17, according to the Facebook posting.
The officer first noticed Russell traveling about 75 mph in a posted 45 mph zone. As the officer attempted to catch up to the car, Russell continued accelerating and was ultimately clocked at 100 mph while traveling over the bridge.
When asked why he was driving at such a high rate of speed, Russell told the officer he was late for work and believed that his speed was justified because he was traveling in an open lane, according to the Facebook posting.
According to the state statute enacted July 1, 2025, operating a motor vehicle 50 mph or more above the posted speed limit is a criminal offense, classified as a misdemeanor. In Russell’s case, the 100 mph speed meant that he was traveling about 150 feet every second.
Russell, who was taken to St. Lucie County Jail, was released later that day on a $2,500 bond, according to jail records. It was his third moving violation, according to jail records
His car was towed from the scene, according to the Facebook posting.
