Just days from our country’s 250th birthday, some of the original documents that shaped our nation are going on display in South Florida.
The Museum of Miami is just one of eight cities in the country to host the archives including the Articles of Association, an engraving of the Declaration of Independence, and Oaths of Allegiance singed by George Washington and Alexander Hamilton.
Museum CEO Natalia Crujeiras says, “Many of these have not been out of the vaults of the National Archives, so this is really a once in a lifetime opportunity.”
She hopes visitors use the opportunity to reflect on our founding ideals and remember the promises of our nation.
She believes they were chosen, in part, because Miami represents the founding of our nation: “The majority of our residents, more than 50%, come from somewhere else, or their parents or grandparents did, and came to Miami and came to America seeking opportunities, seeking freedom and believing in the promise of a better future.”
The museum will be open daily from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. through July 5th.
Entry to the exhibit is free on a first-come, first served basis.
