FORT PIERCE – The 16-year-old who was shot on June 11 in the vicinity of Avenue N, died from his injuries on June 15, Fort Pierce Police confirmed.
At about 9:15 p.m., June 11, Fort Pierce police officers responded to Avenue N after St. Lucie County Sheriff’s office deputies reported hearing multiple gunshots in the area, according to police reports.
Officers and deputies saw three juvenile males fleeing the area in different directions.
As officers and deputies began to pursue the fleeing suspects, they discovered a juvenile male lying on the sidewalk suffering from apparent gunshot wounds and laying on top of a bicycle, according to police reports.
More law enforcement with the sheriff’s office and police department established a perimeter and located three suspects, who were then taken into custody, according to police reports.
One suspect was apprehended by a sheriff’s officer’s K-9, while another one was discovered hiding inside a residential recycling container nearby, according to police reports. Deputies also recovered two weapons.
A 16-year-old Black male was arrested and charged with attempted homicide; tampering with evidence; and unlawful carry of a firearm by a person under 18. He was transported to the Department of Juvenile Justice without incident.
Although an arrest has been made, detectives continue to gather evidence and review all aspects of the case.
