MARION COUNTY, Fla. (WFLA) — Marion County and the larger community of Florida firefighters are mourning the loss of one of their own after he was involved in a car crash last weekend.
Marion County Fire Rescue announced on Friday that firefighter and EMT Evan Lewis died from injuries sustained in the June 14 crash.
Lewis was a registered organ donor, MCFR said, and his loved ones made the heart-wrenching choice to go through with the donation on Thursday, June 18.

An honor walk was held for Lewis at Orlando Regional Medical Center, where friends and loved ones gathered to recognize his gift of life.
“Evan dedicated his life to serving others,” Fire Chief James Banta said. “Even in the face of unimaginable tragedy, he continued that mission. In his last act of service, Evan saved multiple lives through his gifts as an organ donor. His compassion, dedication, and commitment to helping others will never be forgotten. We ask our community to keep Evan’s family, friends, and our Marion County Fire Rescue family in their thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.”
MCFR said funeral and memorial services are still being finalized with Lewis’ family.
